The proposed roadway will feature two lanes in each direction and a raised center median. Sidewalks and bicycle lanes are proposed for both sides of the road. This plans update will result in a biddable set of construction plans in compliance with current design standards, incorporating new utility facilities and including all necessary permits from the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Inwood will also provide post design services as necessary, including future plans updates, expert witness and support during construction.

Inwood's project approach will be to provide a thorough review of the existing plans and make the necessary modifications where conditions have changed since the original design. These changes include the construction of several new subdivisions connecting to Chapman Road and improvements to both SR 434 and SR 426 at either end of the project. New utilities have also been added to the corridor including power transmission lines. One of the most important tasks associated with this plans update is to ensure that the plans meet the latest design standards and permitting criteria. When construction of this roadway is complete, the facility must be safe for both the motorists who use it as well as the environment around it.

Inwood expects to begin the design phase of this project in late summer. The design is expected to take approximately one year. At the end of the design phase, the necessary right of way for the project will be acquired over the next two years. Construction is expected to begin in late 2009 and be completed by 2011. When complete, this roadway is expected to relieve congestion on Mitchell Hammock Road and other parallel facilities.

###

About Inwood Consulting Engineers Inc.

Inwood Consulting Engineers, Inc. provides quality civil, transportation, environ-mental, planning, and public involvement consulting services to governmental clients throughout the state of Florida.
