Transportation Project Engineer (1-2yr. PE)

Position Description

Inwood Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking a full-time employee for the Transportation group at our main office in Oviedo, Florida. The position includes developing plans for roadway transportation projects; preparing plans, estimates, or specifications to design transportation facilities; and making plan alterations and modifications of existing streets, highways, or freeways to improve traffic flow. Essential tasks include the following:

  • Direct the development and production of construction plans and details for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Design or prepare plans for new transportation systems or parts of systems, such as highways, streets, bridges, drainage structures, and roadway lighting.
  • Coordinate design and plans production activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Mentor design support staff.
  • Check construction plans, design calculations, or cost estimations to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformity to engineering standards and practices.
  • Confer with contractors, utility companies, or government agencies to discuss plans, specifications, or work schedules.

Position Criteria

A bachelor’s degree in engineering and a Florida professional engineer license are required. Candidates should have four to six years of practical experience related to transportation projects. Experience with FDOT roadway design projects is preferred. Proficiency with MicroStation, GEOPAK, and Microsoft Office is required.

Candidates should be able to communicate effectively; maintain attention to detail; be thorough when completing work tasks; and demonstrate excellent organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be able to identify, clarify, and analyze broadly-defined engineering problems; identify risks and apply risk management techniques; and make decisions and design or develop solutions to problems by applying accepted procedures and methodologies.
