US 17 Design – Sweetwater Road to 7th Avenue

Florida Department of Transportation – District One

Inwood provided roadway design services to District One to improve the existing U.S. Highway 17 from Sweetwater Road to 7th Avenue in Zolfo Springs, Hardee County, Florida. The current two-lane rural roadway was widened to a four-lane divided rural roadway. An urban segment in Zolfo Springs was also included and consisted of widening the existing two lanes of pavement to four lanes without any median separation.

Stormwater management consisted of wet detention ponds and both open and closed drainage systems for conveyance. As part of this project, the existing bridge over Alligator Branch was replaced with two, 90-foot long parallel bridges.
